For example: If I'm selling a car, I would certainly hope to get more than the trade in value. However, if no one will buy it at the price I'm asking, my last resort is to take it to a dealer where I will certainly get that trade in value. I was just looking at it from a different angle. Just because a car has a suggested retail price of $17 grand doesn't mean there's going to be a person that's willing to pay that price. Plus, when purchasing a car from an individual, you get the car "as is." The Kelly Blue Book retail price include a dealer warranty, full reconditioning (again, my dad's 93NA seats are better than that Ebay car), etc. KBB clealy states that their posted retail value is "not a private-party value" and "assumes that a dealer has absorbed the cost of making the vehicle ready for sale, reconditioning, advertising, sales commissions, arranging for financing and insurance and standing behind the vehicle for any mechanical or safety problems." If these things applied to that 300ZX on Ebay, I would agree with you. However, they do not and so (not to be belligerent) I don't either.
